In a strategic move to address persistent issues surrounding land encroachments and disputes, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has established the Directorate of Land Administration (DLA) under the Logistics Branch.

This is contained in a press statement issued on Thursday by its Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet.

According to the statement, the initiative aims to secure, regulate, document, and efficiently manage all NAF lands and properties across the nation, reducing risks to NAF bases and national security.

The statement noted that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has undergone significant expansion over the years, resulting in the acquisition of vast land and property holdings across the country.

Some of these properties, according to the statement, were allocated to the NAF by state governments and the Federal Government.

The statement noted, however, that recurring challenges related to trespassing, encroachment, and boundary disputes, often arising from undefined or unfenced boundaries, have underscored the need for proactive measures to protect these valuable assets and prevent conflicts with civilians, institutions, and organizations.

Recognizing the importance of addressing these issues and their potential impact on national security, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has given approval for the establishment of the Directorate of Land Administration (DLA).

This newly established directorate, positioned within the Logistics Branch, has a multifaceted mission that includes securing, regulating, documenting, and effectively managing all NAF lands and landed properties throughout the country.

The DLA will also serve as an intermediary between NAF and the relevant Ministries of Lands, as well as Base Commanders. Its primary function is to expedite the resolution of matters concerning trespassing and encroachments on NAF lands and properties in compliance with existing laws.

By taking this proactive approach, the NAF demonstrates its commitment to the responsible and efficient management of its extensive real estate assets, ultimately reinforcing its contribution to national security.
