The Nigerian Army (NA) has embraced the Federal Government’s push towards alternative energy sources by participating in the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).
As part of this initiative, approximately 30 operational vehicles will undergo conversion from Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to environmentally friendly Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in the pilot phase of the program.
During the kick-off of the Nigerian Army Fleet auto switch program on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, represented by Major General Erema Akerejola, Chief of Logistics (Army), underscored the significance of the NA’s involvement in the initiative. He highlighted the large fleet of operational vehicles and emphasised that 30 vehicles using PMS would be converted during the pilot phase, with 22 personnel trained on the conversion process. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for spearheading the initiative.
Minister of Transportation, Senator Sa’id Ahmed Alkali, also addressed the event, stating that the program aims to promote CNG adoption as an environmentally friendly and cost-effective fuel alternative for the Nigerian Army fleet. He expressed optimism that the initiative would enhance cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency.
Project Coordinator of PCNGI, Engineer Micheal Oluwagbemi, hailed the Nigerian Army’s participation as a major milestone, considering its substantial fleet of operational vehicles. He commended the NA for its forward-thinking approach, showcasing a commitment to environmental responsibility and operational efficiency.
