Nigerian Army Kicks Off COSAT Week 2024: Embracing Tech for Strategic Superiority

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, officially inaugurated the Combat Support Arms Training (COSAT) Week 2024 at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering in Makurdi, Benue State.

In his opening address, General Lagbaja highlighted the critical need for robust support in today’s unpredictable and complex military landscape.

He emphasized that the effectiveness of the Nigerian Army (NA) hinges on the efficiency of its Combat Support forces, which include intelligence, communications, engineering, and fire support services.

He praised the Combat Support Corps for their significant contributions to operational successes both domestically and internationally.

General Lagbaja reviewed the vital roles of the Combat Support Arms, noting the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery’s essential fire support, the Engineers’ facilitation of troop movements and operations, and the Signals Corps’ k7crucial communication services.

He commended the Intelligence Corps for its adept handling of both conventional and asymmetric operations.

He urged continuous improvement through ongoing training and research to adapt to the evolving nature of warfare.

Reaffirming his commitment to transforming the Nigerian Army into a well-equipped and highly motivated force, General Lagbaja stressed the importance of partnerships with governmental and non-governmental institutions to leverage emerging technologies for operational advancement.

The Benue State Governor, Reverend Father (Dr) Hyacinth Alia, commended the troops’ sacrifices and the COSAT Week’s focus on technological integration.

He assured continued support from the state government for the Nigerian Army’s security initiatives.

Also speaking Professor Abiodun Musa Aibinu, Vice Chancellor of Summit University, delivered a keynote address on the necessity of incorporating emerging technologies into military operations.

The Commander Corps of Engineers, Major General Philip Eromosele, also spoke, underscoring the COSAT’s goal to enhance the operational efficiency of Combat Support Corps and explore technological solutions to national security threats.

COSAT Week 2024 promises to be a pivotal platform for driving technological advancements and operational improvements within the Nigerian Army.
