Nigerian Army Rescues Kidnapped Victims in Bwari, Clarifying the Role of Security Forces

A security expert, Zagazola Makama, has said the Nigerian Army’s 197 Special Forces Battalion successfully rescued 12 individuals kidnapped in Bwari, Abuja.

Contrary to some reports, police were not directly involved in the operation, though they later facilitated the victims’ reunion with their families.

This clarification comes after an investigation by Zagazola Makama, which revealed discrepancies between the Army’s account and that of the FCT Police Command.
According to military personnel, troops responded to intelligence received at 10 p.m. and located the 12 individuals (3 adult females, 2 female children, and 7 male children) near Gurara Dam in Kachia LGA. The army secured the area and ensured the safety of the rescued individuals.
During their return, the army troops encountered an ambush by suspected bandits but successfully suppressed the threat, protecting both the rescue team and the victims. Zagazola Makama verified this timeline and location details through pictorial evidence provided by the army.

While the FCT Police Command issued a statement claiming a joint operation with the army, evidence suggests the army acted independently. “Handing over rescued victims to the police cannot be called a joint operation,” noted a mid-level army officer involved in the rescue.

Zagazola Makama emphasises accurate reporting and seeks to clarify the record. This incident highlights the bravery and efficiency of the Nigerian Army in tackling complex security challenges. While collaboration between various security forces is crucial, it’s important to acknowledge individual contributions accurately.
