The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has given his approval for the reappointment of Major General Onyema Nwachukwu as the Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), following his recent promotion from Brigadier General to Major General. This decision coincides with the redeployment of other senior officers to various formations and units within the Nigerian Army.
Major General Nwachukwu, an alumnus of the University of Ibadan with a Master’s Degree in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), has a wealth of experience. Additionally, he holds a post-graduate diploma in Advertising and Public Relations from the International Institute of Journalism, Abuja.
Currently serving as the Acting Director of Defence Information at the Defence Headquarters, Major General Nwachukwu has previously held key positions, including Deputy Director Public Relations at Headquarters Theatre Command Operation LAFIYA DOLE (now Operation HADIN KAI). He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and has undergone various military and professional courses and seminars.
Major General Nwachukwu’s diverse experience includes roles such as Media Coordinator for Joint Task Force Operation Pulo Shield, Assistant Director Defence Information (NA) at DHQ, Chief of Staff Headquarters Directorate of Army Public Relations, and Public Relations Officer at NDA.
The Chief of Army Staff’s decision to reappoint Major General Nwachukwu underscores the military’s commitment to effective communication and public relations in the face of evolving security challenges.
