The Director-General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Garba Abari, has decried the problem of flooding ravaging various communities in Nigeria.

Dr Abari gave this lamentation on Wednesday in Abuja at the stakeholders’ meeting on urgent need for effective response to the current flood disaster in the country.

The DG added that the meeting becomes necessary because it provides relevant stakeholders to a platform to brainstorm and dialogue towards preventing a major humanitarian crisis that could be occasioned by flooding in some parts of the country.

According to him, National Orientation Agency (NOA)in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant stakeholders had in the past carried out sensitization campaigns on flood related issues.

He stressed that while they sustain the gains achieved by the campaigns, there was an urgent need for effective response to this year’s annual flood prediction.

While emphasizing the essence of the meeting, Dr Abari asked for all hands to be on deck to work out formidable action plan that would save Nigerians the pains and agonies they would go through in the events of flooding as predicted for 2022.

Dr Abari said that if all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) put their human, financial and material resources together, it would prevent the dangers of flooding in the Nigerian communities.

He enjoined all stakeholders to work in unison not only in the interest of the communities, villages, cities and towns that currently suffer from the effects of past flooding incidents, but also in the best interest of Nigeria as a nation.
