NSF: Be fruitful in Edo, SWAN urges Team Gombe
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Gombe state has wished Team Gombe a successful outing while urging them to be fruitful by winning medals at the National Sports Festival holding in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
Our correspondent confirmed that the Gombe contingent departed the state today April 2 for Edo as the opening ceremony is scheduled for April 4.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Halilu Mohammed Teli and Secretary, Peter Uwumarogie and made available to newmen on Friday in Gombe, SWAN also commended the Gombe state Sports Commission.
“We also commend the chairman of Gombe State Sports Commission, Malam Hamza Adamu Soye and board members for providing the athletes and their coaches all the needed facilities and equipment for training ahead of the festival.
“Despite several postponements of the festival, the chairman didn’t relent in ensuring that the state athletes are in good shape.
SWAN Gombe also commended the state Governor, Inuwa Yahaya for his relentless financial and morale support to the Sports Commission which had led to a hitch-free NSF preparation and participation.
” His support has proven his commitment to youth development through sports which SWAN sees as a good step in the right direction for a state with huge potential.”
SWAN Gombe however, appealed to the state government to extend its financial support to Gombe United Fc and Doma United that recently secured promotion to the second tier of the Nigeria National League (NNL) as well as state amateur clubs for them to excel in their respective competitions.
