Nzem Berom Cultural Festival: Gombe Gov Donates N10m, Commends Berom People for Preserving Cultural Heritage

As the Berom people of Plateau State gathered on Friday for the Nzem Berom Cultural Festival, honouring both their rich traditions and the 15-year reign of their Paramount Ruler, Da Jacob Buba Gyang, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, in a significant gesture of support to the festival, announced a donation of 10 million naira.

This is contained in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to Gombe State Governor on Media and Publicity (Deputy Governor’s office), Jack .A.Tasha, and made available to our correspondent.

According to the statement, the governor who was represented by his deputy, Manassah Daniel Jatau, commended the Berom people for their dedication to preserving their cultural identity, emphasising the importance of passing down cultural values to future generations.

The governor who underscored how these traditions distinguish humans from other beings, urged for leveraging cultural norms to promote peace and unity, which is a crucial element deeply embedded in all cultures, including Berom culture.

In his remarks, the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang recognised the festival’s role in strengthening bonds within the Berom community. He urged for continued unity to confront common challenges, promising heightened security measures to ensure safety during the rainy season, and fostering a conducive secure environment for people to be able to go to their farms and do other lawful activities.

On his part, Paramount Ruler Da Jacob Buba Gyang expressed gratitude to the Governor of Gombe State, his deputy, and all involved in the festival’s success, noting that the support towards the festival demonstrates the spirit of unity of the Beroms and a wakeup call towards fostering a renewed commitment against the incessant myriads of attacks and security challenges.

The festival, which drew Berom people from around the world, showcased the community’s traditional attire and customs, strengthening their resilience and commitment to collective goals and prosperity.
