Ogiame Atuwatse III Calls for Inclusive, Courageous Leadership at Julius Maada Bio Colloquium

His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III has called for more inclusive, accountable, and courageous leadership across Africa, stressing the need to fully harness the contributions of men, women, and young people in shaping the continent’s future.

The monarch made the remarks while speaking on the panel titled “Reimagining African Leadership: Courage, Accountability, and Innovation in an Era of Global Uncertainty” at the closing session of the 2nd Julius Maada Bio Colloquium.

He described leadership as a powerful force that shapes society at every level, noting that the values upheld by leaders and traditional institutions are often reflected in citizens and national development outcomes.

According to him, Africa’s progress depends on collective participation, accountable governance, and the deliberate inclusion of women in decision-making processes across all sectors.

The colloquium also featured contributions from other African leaders, including Julius Maada Bio, who emphasized the need for the continent to adopt strategic thinking over reactive policies.

“Africa must choose strategy over reactions. We must no longer be a continent shaped by events, but one that shapes events. We must deepen intra-African trade,” President Bio stated.

At the conclusion of the event, participants noted a shared consensus on the importance of bold and visionary leadership in addressing Africa’s development challenges.

Ogiame Atuwatse III also highlighted the role of cultural diplomacy, institution-building, and social impact initiatives in promoting a model of African leadership that is people-centered and future-focused.

He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing an Africa that actively shapes global conversations through its values, ideas, and growing capacity for innovation and self-determination.
