Olowu of Kuta urges police to assign DPOs to their communities

In order to avoid the ugly situation that occurred at the weekend in Rivers state where a police DPO was beheaded, Olowu of Kuta Kingdom, HRM Oba Hameed Adekunle Makama Oyelude, Tegbosun III, CON, has advised the Police Service Commission to ensure that police DPOs are posted to their locality as part of community policing.

Olowu said the perpetrators of the heinous act should be caught and subjected to the full force of the law to serve as a deterrent while expressing sympathy to the Nigeria Police Force and the family of the murdered police officer.

In a statement sent by his media office on Sunday in Kuta, Olowu Kuta denounced the horrifying act of beheading a police officer.

However, the monarch emphasized the necessity for the police service commission and the inspector general of police to make sure that all DPOs are from the same locality where they are placed as part of community policing.

According to Olowu, doing so will not only enable him to complete his task attentively, but it will also provide him the chance to get to know the locals.

According to Olowu, “The way the senior officer was beheaded has brought to the fore again the need to always ensure that DPOs are posted to operate in their locality of Origin. I will advise the police service commission and the inspector general of police to ensure that all DPOs are posted to their locality as part of community policing. This will also help in intelligence gathering,” he said.

According to the royal father, the area commanders may originate from any region of the nation.

Recall that SP Bako Angbashim, a police DPO in Ahoada, was beheaded by cult members on Friday.

The governor of Rivers State, Similaye Fubara is furious over the nefarious deed and has suspended the Ahoada traditional leader in addition to placing a N100 million bounty on the perpetrators’ heads.
