Operation FANSAN YAMMA Launches ‘Clean Sweep IV’ to Intensify Offensive Against Terrorists in North-West
The Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), has launched Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV, a coordinated offensive aimed at intensifying pressure on terrorist and armed criminal groups operating across the North-West.
The operation brings together coordinated ground and air operations to disrupt terrorist networks, degrade their capabilities, cut off their movements and logistics, and prevent them from establishing new operational footholds within Nigerian communities.
According to the Theatre Command, the operation is also designed to prevent the infiltration and expansion of terrorist activities across the region while strengthening the protection of civilian communities.
Troops Intensify Operations in Katsina
The offensive has already resulted in heightened military activity across the Theatre.
In Katsina State, troops of Sector 2 on August 12, 2026, conducted a clearance operation around suspected terrorist enclaves in the Dutsinma Local Government Area.
The operation reportedly put significant pressure on the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their positions and withdraw into surrounding bushes.
The clearance operation is continuing in the area as troops maintain pressure on the fleeing elements.
Air Strikes Hit Terrorist Gathering in Zamfara
In Zamfara State, the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA conducted precision strikes following credible intelligence on the movement and convergence of terrorists on motorcycles in Anka Local Government Area.
The military said the air operation neutralised scores of terrorists and forced surviving elements to abandon their motorcycles and flee into surrounding bushes.
The air assets subsequently tracked and engaged the remaining terrorists as the operation continued.
Military Targets Lakurawa Network
A major component of Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV is the effort to contain and dismantle the Lakurawa terrorist network across the Theatre.
The operation seeks to prevent the infiltration and reinforcement of Lakurawa elements into Nigeria, while denying the group the ability to exploit border areas as routes for movement, logistics and the establishment of terrorist enclaves.
The military is also targeting terrorist elements operating around the River Niger axis and the Kainji Lake National Park, with the objective of preventing the areas from being used as bases for launching attacks against neighbouring communities and other parts of the North-West.
Sustained Pressure on Terrorist Networks
The Theatre Command said the launch of Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV demonstrates the continued proactive posture of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in responding to evolving security threats across the region.
The operation is focused on disrupting terrorist networks before they can regroup, reinforce their positions or establish new operational bases.
The Theatre Command reaffirmed its determination to protect civilian populations, safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity and deny terrorist and criminal elements the freedom to operate across the North-West.
The operation is expected to continue with coordinated ground and air actions across identified areas of concern.
