Troops of 1 Battalion, 8 Division, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have neutralised several suspected Lakurawa terrorists during an encounter in Kangiwa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The operation followed several days of sustained tracking and surveillance by the troops, who eventually made contact with the terrorists at a location within the area.
During the encounter, the troops neutralised several members of the group and recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition and other items believed to be associated with the terrorists.
Recovered items included one PKT machine gun, one AK-47 rifle, rifle magazines and several bandoliers of ammunition. The troops also recovered four motorcycles, a large sum of money and three mobile handsets.
The recovery of the weapons and mobility assets is expected to further strengthen ongoing efforts to disrupt the activities and logistics of Lakurawa terrorists operating across parts of the North-West.
The operation also highlights the importance of sustained intelligence-led surveillance and offensive action in denying terrorist groups freedom of movement and disrupting their operational capabilities within the OPFY Joint Operations Area.
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA are sustaining clearance and interdiction operations against terrorist and other criminal elements in the affected areas.
