Over 100 US Army Trainees Complete Red Phase of Basic Combat Training

More than 100 trainees undergoing United States Army Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, have completed the Red Phase after taking their first official Army Fitness Test, navigating rugged Ozark terrain during tactical land navigation and participating in their first field training exercise.

The milestone marked the culmination of four weeks of training focused on discipline, physical fitness, teamwork and the development of basic soldiering skills.

Sgt. 1st Class Jared Croft, senior drill sergeant for Company A, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Chemical Brigade, described the completion of the phase as a significant achievement in the trainees’ development.

“They are beginning to understand the standards and hold themselves and their teammates to them,” Croft said.

He noted that the trainees had demonstrated improved accountability, responded more quickly to corrections and shown greater pride in their formation and equipment.

“They established self-confidence and came together as members of a team truly embracing the Alpha Company Assassins mentality,” he added.

According to the US Army, the Red Phase, which covers Weeks Three and Four of Basic Combat Training, focuses on developing discipline, teamwork and practical military skills. Training activities include weapons familiarisation, physical conditioning and the first field training exercise, known as The Hammer.

The completion of the phase prepares trainees for the next stage of training, where they will continue building the skills and discipline required for military service.
