Police Rescue Two Colombian Women Allegedly Trafficked, Held Captive in Lagos
The Nigeria Police Force has rescued two Colombian women who were allegedly trafficked into Nigeria and held captive by a suspected criminal syndicate in Lagos.
The victims, identified as Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa, were reportedly lured to Nigeria, detained against their will and deprived of their travel documents.
According to the Police, the rescue operation followed credible intelligence received from INTERPOL-NCB Bogotá on August 26, 2026. Operatives of the National Central Bureau, INTERPOL, Lagos Annex, subsequently raided the suspected hideout and successfully rescued the two women.
The suspected traffickers, reportedly Chinese nationals, fled the location as police operatives moved in, abandoning the victims behind.
The Nigeria Police Force said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, while the rescued women are receiving the necessary assistance and support.
The Colombian Embassy in Accra, in collaboration with INTERPOL-NCB, is also working to provide temporary accommodation and emergency travel documentation to facilitate the victims’ safe return to Bogotá.
The operation highlights continued international cooperation in the fight against human trafficking and transnational organised crime, as Nigerian authorities intensify efforts to protect victims and bring suspected traffickers to justice.
