Political Turmoil in Rivers Intensifies as Another Commissioner Resigns

In an unexpected turn of events, the political crisis in Rivers State has deepened as Commissioner for Special Duties, Emeka Woke, has tendered his resignation from Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s cabinet.

This follows the recent resignation of the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, SAN.

Notably, Adangor had previously served in the same role during the administration of former Governor Nyesom Wike, while Woke held the position of Chief of Staff under the former governor. Upon assuming office, Governor Fubara appointed Woke as the Commissioner for Special Duties.

Confirming his resignation during a telephone interview on Thursday evening, Woke stated, “Yes, I have resigned as the Commissioner for Special Duties today.” When pressed for the reasons behind his decision, Woke cryptically responded, “When you get the soft copy of my letter of resignation, you will get the reason.

It is noteworthy that both Adangor and Woke are recognized as strong allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The simultaneous resignations of these key figures from the state government have raised questions about the dynamics within the political landscape of Rivers State.

The developments signal a growing complexity in the relationships among political stakeholders, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the state’s governance.
