Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to promoting national unity and economic development through stronger partnerships with traditional institutions.
Shettima stated this on Thursday when he received the 17th Emir of Gumel, His Royal Highness Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Vice President described traditional rulers as important partners in promoting peace, national security and unity, noting that the Federal Government holds them in high esteem as custodians of Nigeria’s cultural heritage and values.
“Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government continues to hold traditional rulers in high esteem as the fathers of the nation and vital partners in advancing national security and unity,” he said.
Shettima described traditional rulers as the mirror of society, emphasising their role in preserving noble traditions, promoting peaceful coexistence and strengthening relationships within their communities.
He commended the new Emir for his commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence, describing him as a combination of traditional leadership, technological expertise and administrative experience that could support development in the emirate and beyond.
The Vice President expressed confidence that the Emir’s background in technology and public administration would contribute to growth and development across the state.
He also assured the delegation of his continued personal support for the people of Gumel Emirate, particularly in healthcare, education and other areas of development.
In his remarks, the Emir expressed gratitude to the Tinubu administration for its support to the emirate over the years, especially following the death of his predecessor, the late Emir Ahmad Muhammad Sani II.
He pledged that the Gumel Emirate Council would continue to strengthen its relationship with the Federal Government to improve the welfare of the people across various sectors.
The Emir also offered prayers for the re-election of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in the forthcoming elections, while calling for peace and unity among Nigerians, particularly during the 2027 electioneering period.
Members of the Gumel Emirate Council and other prominent indigenes of the area were present at the meeting.
