Shettima Urges Political Maturity Ahead of 2027 Elections, Reassures Nigerians on Economic Reforms

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on political leaders and citizens across the country to approach the 2027 electoral season with maturity, tolerance and a strong sense of national responsibility, warning against actions and rhetoric capable of threatening national peace and stability.

The Vice President made the call on Wednesday while speaking with journalists shortly after observing Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Ramat Square Eid Ground in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Shettima also reassured Nigerians that both the Federal Government and state governments were implementing measures aimed at easing the impact of current economic challenges on citizens.

According to him, the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains focused on reducing economic hardship through ongoing reforms and targeted interventions designed to improve the lives of Nigerians.

“Governments at all levels are poised to ameliorate the sufferings of the Nigerian people,” the Vice President stated.

He appealed to Nigerians to remain patient and continue supporting the administration as it works to stabilise the economy, strengthen security and create more opportunities across different sectors.

Speaking on the political environment ahead of the next general elections, Shettima stressed the need for restraint and responsible conduct among political actors.

He warned against inflammatory statements and actions that could create unnecessary tension, noting that national unity should remain a priority.

The Vice President also urged citizens to continue praying for peace and stability across the country, saying peace remains essential for development and progress.

He further referenced ongoing global tensions, including developments in the Middle East, as a reminder of the importance of unity and solidarity among Nigerians.

The Eid prayers were attended by several dignitaries including Borno State Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, members of the National Assembly and other senior government officials.

Following the prayers, Kadafur paid a traditional Sallah homage to the Vice President at his Maiduguri residence, where he commended Shettima for his continued support to the people and government of Borno State while praying for peace, unity and national prosperity.
