The Sokoto State Police Command has reported a major operational success after its personnel foiled an attempted attack on Dankadu community in Illela Local Government Area, neutralising two suspected bandits during a gun battle.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the suspects were advancing from the Tsauana Forest towards Dankadu when they encountered operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Volunteer Constabulary and Rescue Unit, alongside other tactical teams.
The security personnel engaged the attackers in a fierce gun duel, forcing the suspected bandits to retreat into the forest with gunshot wounds.
A subsequent clearance operation in the area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two magazines and 54 rounds of live ammunition, according to the Police Command.
Police Arrest Motorcycle Theft Suspects
In a separate operation, the Sokoto Police Command also announced the arrest of several suspects allegedly linked to motorcycle theft syndicates operating within Sokoto metropolis.
The suspects were apprehended during targeted operations in Kwannawa, Tamaje, Mabera and Mana, with security operatives recovering several stolen motorcycles and a fabricated pistol.
The Command said investigations into the motorcycle theft network are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest other members of the syndicates who remain at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hassan Hayatu Shafa, commended the operatives for their professionalism, courage and swift response in confronting criminal elements.
He assured residents that the Command would continue to intensify operations against banditry, kidnapping, theft and other forms of criminality across the state.
CP Shafa also urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons, movements and activities within their communities.
