The Headquarters of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) has confirmed the detention of Private Christopher Emmanuel following an alleged altercation with a female vendor identified as Doshima in Kula, Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident, which occurred on May 6, 2025, but surfaced publicly two days later, is now under thorough investigation.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Captain Abdullahi Lawal Osabo, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 401 Special Forces Brigade, Makurdi, and made available to journalists in Abuja.
Preliminary reports suggest the confrontation may have originated from a disagreement over an unsettled debt. Allegations indicate the soldier claimed the vendor insulted him during a phone conversation, which possibly escalated into a physical confrontation.
Private Emmanuel has since been placed in custody, as the Nigerian Army begins a comprehensive inquiry to establish the facts. According to the statement, the Army maintains a firm stance against any form of human rights violation and will enforce disciplinary measures based on the outcome of the investigation.
“The leadership of the Nigerian Army assures the general public and the victim that justice will be served in line with the military’s high standards,” the statement read. “Operation WHIRL STROKE strongly condemns any form of indiscipline or abuse by its personnel.”
