Unity in Diversity: Army War College Nigeria Celebrates International Day with Cultural Splendor

The Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) turned the spotlight on Africa’s vibrant cultural mosaic during its International Day celebration held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the College’s front lawn in Asokoro, Abuja.

In a statement signed by Major Hashimu Sa’ad Abdullahi, the College’s Public Relations Officer, the event was described as a colorful display of traditional heritage from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and six allied African countries. The celebration underscored AWCN’s dedication to fostering multinational military camaraderie and promoting cultural diplomacy.

The Chief of Special Services and Programmes (Army), Major General Jamal Abdulsalam, who served as the Special Guest of Honor, lauded the College’s efforts in blending culture with strategic military education. “This is more than a cultural celebration—it is a practical demonstration of international cooperation, mutual respect, and strategic communication,” he said.

He further urged the participants of Course 9/2025 to embrace the values of openness, collaboration, and cultural intelligence as they grow into roles of strategic leadership and defense policy.

Commandant of the College, Major General Umar Muhammed Alkali, highlighted that the International Day is a vital aspect of the Higher Military Strategy and Management Course, aimed at cultivating global perspectives among officers. “This year’s theme of ‘Unity in Diversity’ reinforces our shared commitment to peace, security, and mutual understanding,” he remarked.

The event was marked by an array of musical performances, culinary delights, traditional dances, and exhibitions of historical artifacts. A symbolic cutting of the International Friendship Cake and a group photograph capped the celebration, reflecting a united front in advancing regional security through cultural appreciation.
