Taraba Woman, Janet Igohia, Arrested Over Alleged Role in Kidnapping, Bandit Logistics Network

Security operatives have arrested a woman identified as Janet Igohia in Taraba State over her alleged involvement in kidnapping support activities and logistics supply for armed bandit groups operating in parts of North-East and North-Central Nigeria.

Security sources say the suspect was apprehended during a coordinated operation by the Nigerian military in January 2024, following intelligence reports linking her to a wider criminal network allegedly involved in ransom collection and supply of materials to armed groups.

Investigators allege that Igohia played a support role in facilitating communication and logistics for kidnappers operating in forested areas around Taraba and neighbouring states, including the movement of ransom payments and supplies.

She was reportedly linked to factions operating in areas previously associated with late bandit leader Gana, and later other criminal elements operating in the region after his death.

Security sources further disclosed that intelligence gathered from the suspect has assisted ongoing operations targeting criminal hideouts in areas such as Kashimbila and Donga forests, where troops have reportedly recovered firearms including AK-47 rifles and general-purpose machine guns.

The Nigerian Army has continued counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations across affected states as part of efforts to dismantle criminal networks responsible for kidnappings and rural attacks.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to identify other collaborators within the criminal supply chain, while urging communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

Security officials also stress that criminal networks often rely on local facilitators for logistics, intelligence, and financial movement, making community awareness a key component in combating kidnapping and banditry.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
