Team Network Distributes Economic Trees, Concrete Rings to Boost Community Development

By Comfort Pius, Jos

Team Network, a community-based group committed to promoting the financial, economic, and business development of its people, has distributed economic tree seedlings and concrete rings in Ganawuri, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, as part of efforts to promote sustainable development and improve the livelihoods of community members.

The distribution exercise took place on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Ganawuri as part of activities marking the group’s leader’s over 40 years of self-development and service. The programme also featured special prayers for the next generation, with emphasis on community integration, communal work, economic empowerment, discipline, and environmental protection.

Speaking during the exercise, the National Leader of Team Network, Song Muru, PhD, said the initiative was designed to rekindle the spirit of communal work and encourage residents to take collective responsibility for the development of their communities.

He said the decision to distribute economic trees to students was informed by concerns over school dropouts caused by financial difficulties, explaining that the trees could provide the beneficiaries with a future source of income to support their education.

According to him, the students would be expected to plant and nurture the trees so that, when they mature and begin producing fruits, they could harvest and sell the produce to help pay their school fees.

Muru said the initiative also sought to address some of the challenges confronting rural communities, particularly difficulties children face accessing schools during the rainy season when rising water levels in streams make crossings dangerous or impassable.

He explained that the concrete rings were part of efforts to address community infrastructure needs, while the tree-planting initiative would contribute to environmental protection and provide long-term economic benefits.

The Team Network leader disclosed that seven committees had been established to supervise the programme, including the purchase and distribution of the materials, planting of the seedlings, and their subsequent watering and maintenance.

He added that the committees would work with village heads and churches to ensure proper monitoring and sustainability across the six districts and eight village areas covered by the initiative.

The trees being distributed include mango, avocado, guava, orange, olive, mahogany and palm.

A teacher at St. Andrew Secondary School, Sunday Ngyang Tson, said teachers would guide the students to plant the trees in appropriate locations and ensure they were properly maintained and protected from animals.

Tson expressed optimism that the initiative would provide students with an opportunity to generate income from the trees when they matured, helping them meet some of their educational expenses.

Also speaking, Chairman of Team Network, Chai Musa Chaimang, commended the initiative, describing it as a significant contribution to community development.

Chaimang, who said he was born and raised in the community, expressed appreciation for the investment in the people’s future and the support being extended to younger generations.

One of the student beneficiaries, Nyam Praise Markus, pledged to plant and nurture the tree allocated to her, expressing hope that it would grow and benefit younger students in the future.

She thanked the organisers for the initiative and prayed for their continued success and ability to undertake more development projects for the community.
