TikTok Unveils AI-Powered Content Tool as Experts Highlight Demand Challenges Facing SMEs

TikTok has launched Symphony, an artificial intelligence-powered content creation tool designed to help businesses produce professional marketing materials without the need for expensive agencies, production teams or advanced editing skills.

The unveiling took place during the launch of TikTok’s Digital Commerce Labs in Lagos, where the platform showcased how the new technology could simplify content creation for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

While the tool is expected to lower the barriers to digital marketing, discussions at the event highlighted a deeper challenge confronting many businesses: generating consistent customer demand.

According to figures shared by TikTok, about 40 per cent of SMEs fail because they are unable to create sufficient demand for their products and services.

Industry experts at the event noted that many businesses already maintain active social media accounts, run paid advertisements and regularly publish digital content, yet continue to struggle with sales and customer acquisition.

They explained that content creation alone does not guarantee business growth, stressing that success depends on factors such as product positioning, customer targeting and the ability to solve genuine market needs.

Speakers observed that while AI tools can accelerate content production, they cannot replace strong business fundamentals or create demand where none exists.

Entrepreneurs who participated in the event also shared their experiences in building successful brands through digital platforms.

Fashion entrepreneur Oluwatobi Anointing said consistency played a crucial role in her growth journey, revealing that she posted content regularly for three months before seeing significant results.

Similarly, the founder of Healthkraft Africa, Dr. Olawale Ogunlana, stated that success on TikTok is not necessarily driven by entertainment or viral trends but by providing solutions to real problems and addressing questions that matter to customers.

Participants agreed that as AI continues to make content creation faster and more affordable, businesses will need to focus more on building trust, understanding consumer behaviour and delivering value to customers.

Analysts at the event concluded that while artificial intelligence can help create advertisements and marketing content, sustainable business growth ultimately depends on achieving strong product-market fit and maintaining meaningful customer relationships.
