President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has defended his administration’s emphasis on infrastructure development, describing it as the foundation of economic growth and a key pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President made the remarks on Friday during the commissioning of Collector Roads 01 and 02 in the Mabushi District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. He was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
According to the President, the newly completed roads will improve connectivity within Mabushi and surrounding districts, reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion and support economic activities across the capital city.
“Renewed Hope is not just a slogan. It means roads, opportunities and a better quality of life for ordinary Nigerians. Infrastructure is the backbone of a modern economy. Roads are not just asphalt; they are the veins of commerce, the bridges of unity and the channels through which people pursue their dreams without fear or delay,” he said.
Tinubu noted that residents had for years endured traffic bottlenecks, poor road access and long travel times in the area, adding that the new road network would significantly improve mobility and productivity.
He said the administration remains committed to building a world-class capital city that serves all residents regardless of their location.
“Our vision remains clear: a capital city that works for everyone, whether you live in Asokoro or Kuje, Wuse or Gwagwalada. Interconnectivity is how we get there—one road at a time, one district at a time, until no community is left behind,” the President stated.
He also thanked residents for their patience during the construction period and urged them to protect and make responsible use of the infrastructure.
The President commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving the administration’s infrastructure agenda in Abuja.
“I gave you a simple charge: Make Abuja work for all Nigerians. From satellite towns to the city centre, you have continued to turn plans into tangible projects. Nigerians can see the transformation, and I commend your dedication,” Tinubu said.
In his remarks, Nyesom Wike said the project was part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure across all districts of the FCT in line with presidential directives. He attributed the achievements recorded so far to the support and leadership of President Tinubu.
The Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, described the road project as another milestone in efforts to open up communities and stimulate economic activities within the territory.
Providing an overview of the project, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, said the roads would enhance traffic flow and improve connectivity between Mabushi and neighbouring districts, boosting economic and social activities across the capital.
The commissioning forms part of a series of infrastructure projects being executed by the Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving transportation, connectivity and economic development across the country.
