Tinubu Renames Federal University of Health Sciences Azare After Late Islamic Scholar Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renaming of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare (FUHSA), Bauchi State, in honour of the late renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
The President made the announcement on Saturday during a condolence visit to the Bauchi State Government and the family of the late cleric, describing the gesture as a way of immortalising a man whose life was devoted to humanity, knowledge, and service to Allah.

With the decision, the institution will now be known as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University.
President Tinubu praised the late Sheikh as a selfless leader who touched lives through impactful teachings and unwavering commitment to peace, unity, and moral values. He urged Nigerians to uphold the legacy of the scholar by promoting harmony, stability, and national development.
“We all came from the Almighty Allah and we shall return to Him. The best thing we can do is to continue praying for peace, stability, economic prosperity, and to live by the values he left behind,” the President said, while praying for the repose of the scholar’s soul.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for personally visiting the state after earlier delegating Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him during the burial rites. He described the visit as a clear demonstration of the President’s respect for the late Sheikh, his family, and the people of Bauchi State.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Dr. Bashir Sheikh Dahiru-Bauchi thanked the President for the honour and for the high-level support shown during the funeral and condolence period, describing the renaming of the university as a fitting tribute to the late Islamic icon.
The renaming marks a significant national recognition of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi’s enduring contributions to religious scholarship, social harmony, and human development in Nigeria.
