Troops Foil Mass Abduction Attempt by Terrorists in Zamfara, Rescue Nine Victims

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an attempted mass abduction by terrorists in Unguwar Rogo Village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, rescuing nine civilians, including an infant.

The operation followed a distress call received on August 16, 2026, reporting the presence of armed terrorists in the community. The military said the attackers were led by a suspected terrorist kingpin identified as Mallam Shuaibu.

According to preliminary information, the terrorists allegedly launched the attack after some of their associates were arrested by troops while attempting to procure motorcycles and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, for the group.

Following the arrests, the terrorists reportedly laid an ambush in a millet farm along a major route, targeting passing vehicles. Some vehicles reportedly lost control during the attack and veered into nearby bushes, where the terrorists allegedly intended to abduct the occupants.

Troops responded swiftly to the distress call and engaged the attackers, forcing them to withdraw into the surrounding bushes and preventing the planned mass abduction.

Nine civilians, including an infant, were successfully rescued from the scene.

However, two female victims sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and have been evacuated for medical treatment.

The military said troops are continuing clearance and exploitation operations in the area to track the fleeing terrorists, dismantle their support network and prevent further attacks on communities and motorists.

The successful intervention underscores the sustained efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect civilians, disrupt terrorist activities and deny criminal elements freedom of action across Zamfara State.
