The incident occurred on the night of June 10, highlighting the role of timely intelligence and rapid military intervention in ongoing counterterrorism operations across Nigeria’s North-West region.

According to military sources, troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dauran received intelligence at about 9:00 p.m. indicating that armed terrorists had launched an attack on Baicen Dauran Village.

Upon receiving the alert, the troops immediately mobilised to the area and engaged the attackers while simultaneously requesting reinforcements from Battalion Headquarters.

The coordinated response by the frontline troops and reinforcement team proved decisive, as the approaching additional forces reportedly disrupted the terrorists’ operation and compelled them to abandon the attack.

Sources said the assailants fled the area after encountering strong military resistance and observing the arrival of reinforcements.

Following the successful intervention, troops conducted extensive night patrols along key routes around the community to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or launching further attacks.

The patrols were also aimed at reassuring residents and strengthening security presence in the affected area.

Military authorities noted that the operation forms part of the broader mandate of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to deny terrorist and criminal elements freedom of movement across Zamfara State and other parts of the North-West.

Security experts have consistently maintained that armed groups often rely on surprise and rapid mobility to carry out attacks, but such advantages can be neutralised through prompt intelligence gathering and swift operational responses.

The successful defence of Baicen Dauran has been welcomed by residents as a positive development in a region that has faced years of insecurity linked to terrorism and banditry.

Military sources urged members of the public to continue supporting security operations by providing credible and timely information that can assist troops in preventing attacks and tracking criminal elements.

The incident further underscores the importance of intelligence sharing, community vigilance, and sustained military pressure in efforts to restore peace and stability across Nigeria’s North-West region.
