In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, said the incident occurred on June 9, 2026, and raised concerns among residents of the border community.

According to the Army, troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Danare promptly responded after receiving reports of the presence of foreign military personnel within Nigerian territory.

The statement explained that Nigerian troops immediately established contact with the appropriate authorities of the Cameroonian Armed Forces, leading to the withdrawal of the foreign troops in line with established border management protocols.

“The situation was immediately contained without further escalation,” the Army stated.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the incident stemmed from a disagreement over the collection of levies on farmland located between Danare Community in Nigeria and Dadi Community in Cameroon.

To further strengthen cooperation and prevent similar occurrences, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division has directed the Commander of 13 Brigade to engage his Cameroonian counterpart through a bilateral visit.

The Army said the engagement is intended to reinforce existing diplomatic and military relations, improve border coordination, clarify operational procedures along the international boundary, and enhance confidence-building measures between both countries.

The Division reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of communities located along the nation’s borders.

Residents of Danare and neighbouring communities were assured that the situation remains calm and fully under control, with troops maintaining heightened vigilance and continuous monitoring of activities along the border.

The Army also urged members of the public to remain peaceful, go about their lawful activities, and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary tension within the affected communities.

The statement reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s determination to work with relevant authorities and neighbouring countries to maintain peace, security, and stability along Nigeria’s international borders.
