Troops Rescue Kidnap Victim, Arrest Suspects, Recover 126 Rustled Livestock in Katsina
Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded major operational successes in Katsina State with the rescue of a kidnapped victim, the arrest of suspects during a joint security operation, and the recovery of 126 rustled livestock in separate operations across the state.
According to the Joint Task Force, the operations underscore the military’s sustained offensive against terrorists and criminal elements threatening peace and security in the North-West.
In the early hours of July 26, 2026, troops, working alongside the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, responded to a distress call over terrorist activities in Karkata Village, Charanchi Local Government Area.
On arrival, the security team engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to abandon a kidnapped victim before fleeing into nearby bushes under intense military pressure.
The victim was rescued unharmed and safely reunited with her family.
In another operation, troops of Sector 2, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), carried out coordinated raids at Wagin, Tundu Mobi, and Chadawaki communities in Batsari Local Government Area.
The operation resulted in the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm loaded with five cartridges, alongside other exhibits.
The suspects and recovered items have since been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Meanwhile, acting on credible intelligence, troops laid an ambush along a suspected terrorist crossing route at Yankwani Village in Bakori Local Government Area, where they intercepted suspected terrorists attempting to move rustled livestock.
Unable to withstand the troops’ superior firepower, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning 126 livestock, comprising 83 cattle and 43 sheep.
The recovered animals were subsequently handed over to the Chairman of the Peace Keeping Committee in Bakori in the presence of local government officials to facilitate identification and their return to the rightful owners.
Commending the troops for their professionalism, courage and vigilance, the Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements across Katsina State and the wider North-West region.
He assured residents that the Joint Task Force remains resolute in its mission to restore lasting peace, protect lives and property, and deny terrorists freedom of operation within the theatre.
