Authorities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai directed hotels to extend the stays of guests unable to depart, assuring operators that the government would cover all accommodation and meal costs. The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism issued the initial directive, instructing hotels to keep affected guests and forward invoices to the government. A similar order followed from Dubai hours later.

The General Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that the state is funding lodging and meals for travelers impacted by the closures, which reportedly left more than 20,000 passengers stranded.

Private sector support quickly followed. Holiday rental companies in Dubai opened apartments free of charge to affected travelers, with more than 250 hosts volunteering their properties within hours.

Officials said the coordinated response was aimed at preventing disruption and ensuring visitors’ safety and comfort during the unexpected shutdown. The move has drawn praise from travelers and observers as an example of crisis management rooted in hospitality and public–private cooperation.
