UK Tribunal Rejects Disability Discrimination Claims by Bus Driver Over Workplace Dispute

A bus driver in Bristol, United Kingdom, Stephanie Bryan, has lost her disability discrimination and harassment claims against her employer, The Big Lemon, and a colleague following a workplace dispute that reportedly involved complaints about body odour and flatulence.

The employment tribunal heard that a colleague allegedly experienced such a strong smell after Bryan’s shift that she had to wash her uniform and take a shower.

The smell was believed to be linked to severe flatulence. When the issue was raised, Bryan reportedly responded, “Everyone needs to fart.”

However, the tribunal found that Bryan’s dismissal in January 2025 was primarily linked to concerns about her driving standards and her failure to pass an extended probation period, rather than the alleged flatulence alone.

Bryan subsequently brought claims of disability discrimination and harassment against The Big Lemon and her colleague.

In its 2026 decision, the tribunal rejected both claims, bringing an end to the unusual workplace dispute that attracted attention over its reported circumstances.
