Yamaltu/Deba Lawmaker Submits Petition to UN on Hippo Attacks, Farmer-Herder Conflicts

The Member representing Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency of Gombe State in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Amb. Inuwa Garba FNATE, has formally submitted a petition to the United Nations seeking urgent international attention to security and livelihood challenges affecting communities in the constituency.

The petition was submitted at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Hajiya Amina Mohammed.

According to the lawmaker, the petition focuses on the devastating impact of hippopotamus attacks and persistent farmer-herder conflicts, which he said continue to threaten lives, livelihoods and peaceful coexistence in communities across Yamaltu/Deba.

Garba said the submission was made on behalf of the people of Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency as part of his efforts to ensure that the challenges confronting his constituents receive attention beyond the national level.

He described the engagement as particularly significant because Hajiya Amina Mohammed is a distinguished daughter of Gombe State, making the presentation at the UN an important moment for the people of the state.

The lawmaker said the petition seeks international support and appropriate interventions to address the humanitarian and security implications of the challenges, while promoting sustainable solutions that will protect communities and strengthen peaceful coexistence.

He reaffirmed his commitment to representing the interests of his constituents and ensuring that their concerns are heard at the highest levels of government and international institutions.

Garba said the formal engagement with the United Nations reflects his determination to pursue every legitimate avenue to secure support and lasting solutions to issues affecting the people of Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency and Gombe State.
