Zamfara food security targets 10,000 beneficiaries

Zamfara State, Deputy Governor  Hassan Nasiha has said the state government Food and Social Security Programme is known as ‘Matawalle Vision 2023’ has targeted 10,000 beneficiaries for various packages of food and social security.

Nasiha disclosed this during a meeting with State and Local Government committees on the “Zamfara Cares for You Programme”, held in Gusau on Friday.

He said the programme was a special intervention of the government to relieve people from the effects of COVID- 19 that posed challenges to the economic and social lives of citizens globally.

The programme was introduced to diversify areas of boosting the living conditions of citizens in the state.

Nasiha said to ensure transparency and fairness in the distribution process, the state had constituted a local government committee to ensure effectiveness, as directed by the state governor.

The local government committees include the commissioner representing the area as chairman, while LG sole administrators, members of the state House of Assembly, and representatives of Emirates and of Ulamah are members.

He said further that Permanent Secretaries from the respective local government areas were to serve as Secretaries to the committees.

According to him, the programme will cover food and social security as well as cash transfers to over 10,000 people across the 14 local government areas of the state.

He warned committee members not to abuse government intention by diverting the package to their families, friends and relations to the detriment of targeted individuals.

He further called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the package as expected by the state government. (NAN)
