Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has assured residents that he will hand over a more stable, secure, and economically prosperous state to the next administration at the end of his tenure.
Governor Zulum gave the assurance on Monday while receiving a delegation of prominent sons and daughters of Gubio Local Government Area at the Government House in Maiduguri. The delegation was led by elder statesman Gambo Gubio and included the APC governorship candidate, Mustapha Gubio.
Other members of the delegation included the Chairman of the Borno State Civil Service Commission, Bulama Mali Gubio, former House of Representatives member Fanta Baba Shehu, Executive Chairman of Gubio Local Government Mali Bulama Mali, a retired Commissioner of Police, and former council chairmen.
Addressing the visitors, Zulum acknowledged that insecurity remains the state’s most pressing challenge but expressed confidence that the situation would improve significantly before he leaves office.
“Security is the most difficult issue. Insha Allah, before I leave, the situation will be better than now. I will hand over a more stable, more prosperous, and more secure government to Engr. Mustapha Gubio, Insha Allah,” the governor stated.
He stressed that maintaining success is often more difficult than achieving it, calling for continued support, prayers, and guidance for the APC candidate.
“What matters is not just success; managing success is more difficult than achieving success itself. Managing success and managing the affairs of Borno State is not easy, but with collective support, prayers, and guidance, God will give him the wisdom and energy to succeed,” he said.
Governor Zulum described Mustapha Gubio as a man of integrity and humility, noting that he had known him for over two decades.
“I have known him for the past 26 years, since he was a student at the University of Maiduguri. His integrity is evident; he is humane, very gentle, and composed. Insha Allah, God will help him to steer the mantle of leadership of Borno State,” he added.
Reflecting on the early days of his administration in 2019, the governor recalled the immense challenges posed by insecurity and the humanitarian crisis in the state.
“When I took over the leadership of the state, in the first 55 days of my administration, I saw my children only three times. The first four years were really challenging, but Almighty Allah has helped us to see light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Gambo Gubio commended Governor Zulum for his role in the emergence of Mustapha Gubio as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election and praised the governor’s achievements in security, infrastructure, and governance.
“We are here today to express our profound gratitude and thanks for this remarkable occasion. Words alone cannot adequately convey the depth of our feelings. However, we remain sincerely grateful and deeply appreciative,” he said.
The visit was attended by the APC State Chairman, Bello Ayuba, Secretary to the State Government Bukar Tijani, Acting Chief of Staff Babagana Mustapha Malumbe, commissioners, special advisers, and other government officials.
