In a statement signed by Lieutenant Adebayo Samuel Ademuwi, the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, the Army Headquarters (AHQ) Department of Civil-Military Affairs (DCMA) has conducted a sensitisation workshop for troops of 23 Brigade (Bde) on the proper conduct of the Nigerian soldier within the larger society.

The workshop was held today Thursday 7 March 2024 at the 23 Brigade Officer’s Mess, Gibson Jalo Cantonment Yola, Adamawa State, as part of the training programmes and activities organised by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen TA Lagbaja, in line with his Command Philosophy, which is to “transform the Nigerian Army to a well-trained, equipped and highly motivated Force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment”.

The Chief of Civil-Military Affairs (CCMA) Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, who was represented by the Director, Civil-Military Affairs Brigadier General Paul Koughna, was the Special Guest of Honor at the workshop.

The CCMA said the workshop was timely as Nigerian Army personnel are deployed in all the states of the federation to tackle the insecurity plaguing the nation. He urged the troops to continue to behave professionally and assured them of the Nigerian Army’s support in the conduct of their legitimate duties. He added that the workshop would help the troops to understand what is expected of them in dealing with civilians and their rights as soldiers.

He emphasised that “the Nigerian Army is a professional force created to defend the territorial integrity of the nation. Hence, I urge you all to avoid any action that could tarnish the reputation of the army.”

The Commander 23 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Paul Zawaya, in his welcome address, said the workshop was beneficial as the Brigade has always prioritised the training of its personnel and has ensured that troops are updated and informed on how to perform their duties in accordance with global best practices. He said the workshop would instill in the troops the necessary mindset to perform with a high level of professionalism while on military operations.

The Brigade commander commended the AHQ DCMA for working hard to maintain and improve the civil-military relationship. He advised the participants to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop.

The workshop featured well-prepared and well-delivered lectures, free Cataracts’ Surgery Medical Outreach for patients from within and outside the Cantonment, Question and Answer session. The event ended with the presentation of mementoes and group photograph.
