Nigeria Requests Synergy With Canada To Boost Law Enforcement, Security

In order to promote deeper relations and collaboration in a number of sectors, especially in the area of security and law enforcement, Nigeria’s Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has worked to establish a partnership with Canada.

During a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Police Affairs’ Abuja headquarters by the Canadian Embassy in Nigeria, headed by Mr. James Christoff, the country’s high commissioner, Mr. Gaidam made the request.

The Minister asked representatives of both nations to grasp the chance to build a closer and more productive relationship between Nigeria and Canada, noting that by working together, they can make the world a safer and more prosperous place for its people.

In his words, “Today marks a significant moment as we gather to discuss and explore ways to deepen the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Canada. It is my privilege to be part of this momentous occasion.”

Gaidam said that the “meeting signifies the mutual desire of Nigeria and Canada to enhance cooperation, exchange knowledge, and jointly address the challenges that affect our societies.”

He said; “We recognize that a strong partnership in the realm of security is crucial for the well-being and prosperity of our nations.”

The Minister emphasized that by having an open discussion and sharing best practices, Nigeria and Canada can benefit from each other’s experiences and come up with creative solutions to counter new security threats. Nigeria and Canada share common values, such as the promotion of peace, security, and the rule of law.

“Our collaboration will not only benefit our countries but also contribute to the overall stability and security of the international community.

“The visit of James Christoff presents a unique opportunity for us to explore avenues for collaboration in areas such as intelligence sharing, capacity building, and joint operations,” he added.

Mr. James Christoff, the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, stated that the two nations have excellent bilateral cooperation in many areas of human development, particularly in relation to matters of law enforcement.

According to Mr. Christoff, federal police officers on the commission have excellent working relationships and levels of cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force, and their efforts are translating into a commitment to address criminal activity that affects both nations.
