Army commander tasks personnel to remain physically, mentally alert

As the students of Exercise SHINNING STAR IV/23 draw to an end, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA)/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has cautioned them to stay mentally and physically alert and ready to serve in any capacity.
The General Officer in charge (GOC) delivered this warning at the commencement and graduation ceremonies of Basic Battle Course (BBC) 7/23 and Exercise SHINNING STAR IV/23 at 6 Division Training School (DTS) at Port Harcourt Barracks.
The GOC expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for his understanding and kindness in allowing the DTS to provide combat training to soldiers.
“Transform the NA into a Well-trained, Equipped, and Highly effective Force toward achieving our Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment,” he continued, is in keeping with the COAS’ command philosophy.

General Abdussalam continued, stating that the main goals of the training were to increase the soldiers’ sense of self-worth and camaraderie as well as their physical and mental stamina in order to improve their battle readiness and endurance in the face of extreme heat, hunger, exhaustion, and lack of sleep.
He expressed his congratulations on their inauguration and graduation and mentioned how fortunate they were to have benefited from the training programme.
During his welcome speech, Lt Col Abdullahi Manu, the Acting Division Training Officer (DTO), expressed gratitude to the GOC for helping to achieve the training’s intended goals.
While summarising the course highlights, he also confirmed that 158 and 32 students, respectively, from various formations and units under the 6 Division Area of Responsibility, participated in the 8 and 6-week training for Exercise SHINNING STAR IV and BBC.
The group photos and trophies given to the top graduating students were the event’s highlights.
