FCT Minister Summons Emergency Meeting Over Worsening Security

Expressing deep concern over the escalating insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike summoned an emergency meeting on Tuesday, bringing together security agencies and key stakeholders to address the pressing issues plaguing the nation’s capital.
The security situation in the FCT has witnessed a concerning deterioration in recent months, with kidnappings and bandit activities rampant in various areas. In response to this growing threat, Wike convened a meeting attended by heads of security agencies in the FCT, top officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), council chairmen, and traditional rulers.
Addressing the gathering, Wike urged the council chairmen to fulfil their responsibilities and reassured residents of the FCT of forthcoming improvements in security measures. He emphasized the necessity for a strategic review of the security apparatus in the FCT to effectively counter the prevailing insecurity in the nation’s seat of power.
The emergency meeting follows closely on the heels of First Lady Remi Tinubu’s poignant response to the tragic death of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, one of the young girls kidnapped on the outskirts of Abuja.
In a heartfelt post on her X platform, the First Lady conveyed her condolences to the grieving family and called for collective prayers for the safe return of the abducted girls. She wrote on Monday night, “It is with a heavy heart that I acknowledge the devastating loss of Nabeeha and extend my deepest condolences to her grieving family. In difficult moments like this, I urge the nation to join in fervent prayers for the safe return of these girls. Let us hold the families close to our hearts in prayers.”
The First Lady implored security agencies to intensify their efforts in combating kidnappings and insecurity nationwide. She stressed, “The safety and swift return of the Al-Kadriyar sisters and others in captivity should be our paramount concern.”
As both the FCT Minister and the First Lady address the escalating security challenges, the nation waits with bated breath for the outcomes of the emergency meeting and the continued efforts of security agencies to restore peace and security in the nation’s capital.
