A New Chapter in African Defence Collaboration

In a significant move to bolster regional security and cooperation, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of Nigeria, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, paid an official visit to the Chief of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), General Rudzani Maphwanya, in Pretoria, South Africa.

This was contained in a press statement signed by Brig-General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, made available to newsmen in Abuja on Monday.

“The meeting, conducted behind closed doors, focused on exploring mutual benefits and potential areas of cooperation between the two nations.

General Maphwanya emphasised the importance of this meeting between the two largest economies and military powers on the African continent, underscoring its potential to address the multifaceted challenges facing the region.

General Musa echoed these sentiments, describing the discussion as a crucial step towards solving the continent’s pressing security issues.

The discussions covered the need for mutual cooperation, the reinforcement of bilateral ties, and various measures to tackle regional security challenges.

Both leaders recognised the importance of exchanging expertise and forging stronger ties for the betterment of Africa.

Attendees included SANDF Chiefs of Intelligence, Policy and Plans, International Affairs, and Joint Operations, among other departmental chiefs.

The visit marks a pivotal moment in African defence collaboration, setting the stage for future partnerships aimed at ensuring regional stability and growth.
