U.S. Election: Trump on Brink of Historic Comeback Victory Over Harris
By Matthew Eloyi
Donald Trump was on the verge of a historic and stunning comeback in the 2024 presidential election, with Fox News declaring him the winner early Wednesday morning — the only network to make the call.
Trump, 78, had already secured key swing states Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina, with leads in several other battlegrounds over Democratic vice president Kamala Harris.
Trump supporters celebrated at a watch party in Florida, eagerly awaiting his anticipated victory speech.
Meanwhile, a somber mood overtook Harris’s camp, where campaign aides announced a change in plans.
“You won’t hear from the vice president tonight but you will hear from her tomorrow,” said Cedric Richmond, Harris’s campaign co-chair, addressing supporters at Howard University.
Adding to the Democrats’ setbacks, Republicans regained control of the Senate, flipping two critical seats to seize a majority.
A Trump victory could send shockwaves across the globe, sparking concerns among U.S. allies in Europe and Asia over a potential resurgence of his nationalist policies and praise for leaders like Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
Markets reacted swiftly, with the U.S. dollar surging and bitcoin reaching a record high, while most equity markets climbed as traders bet on Trump’s return.
