Held at approximately 0900 hours local time (GMT+3), the ceremony was attended by around 32 heads of government and other high-ranking officials from various nations, reflecting a strong show of global solidarity and respect for the war’s fallen soldiers.

General Musa was accompanied by Commander Infantry Corps, Major General UA Yusuf, and the Principal General Staff Officer to the CDS, Brigadier General Obinna Azuikpe. The Nigerian delegation actively participated in laying wreaths at the war memorial, symbolizing Nigeria’s respect for international peace and the shared history of global conflict and sacrifice.

Victory Day, widely observed across Russia and several other countries, commemorates the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945 and pays tribute to the millions who fought and fell during the war. The presence of Nigeria’s top military leadership underscored the country’s diplomatic engagement and its commitment to honouring historical legacies of courage and peace.

The visit also signals strengthening ties between Nigeria and the Russian Federation, as global security cooperation and mutual respect take centre stage in international relations.
