Troops Record Major Breakthrough in Operation Zafin Wuta, Arrest Suspected Kidnapping Kingpin in Taraba

Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have achieved another significant milestone in the ongoing Operation Zafin Wuta, a large-scale clearance operation aimed at flushing out criminal elements terrorising communities in Southern Taraba.

During a coordinated operation on 23 November 2025, troops apprehended a suspected kidnapping kingpin, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, while he attempted to flee Wukari Local Government Area.

Bawa is believed to be a close associate of Mr. Umar Musa, a notorious kidnapping mastermind who was arrested by 6 Brigade troops just a day earlier, on 22 November 2025. Preliminary investigations have already revealed strong links between the two suspects and a wider criminal network responsible for multiple kidnappings, violent attacks, and other coordinated crimes across the region.

Reacting to the successful operation, the Commander 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their professionalism and precision. He said the arrest of Bawa “is a clear indication that Operation Zafin Wuta is achieving its intended objective of dismantling criminal syndicates and restoring security to affected communities.”

He further assured residents that the Brigade will sustain its aggressive clearance operations, stressing that “no criminal element will be allowed to escape justice as long as these operations maintain their current momentum.”

In a statement issued by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, on 24 November 2025, the Nigerian Army reaffirmed its determination to rid Southern Taraba of all criminal threats and restore lasting peace to the area.

Bawa is currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation as investigations into his network continue.

The Nigerian Army also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that can support ongoing security operations.
