CDS Oluyede Pledges Stronger AFN–NIPSS Collaboration on Strategic Policy and Security Solutions
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has assured the Director General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Professor Ayo Omotayo, of enhanced collaboration between the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and the nation’s foremost policy and strategic studies institution.

General Oluyede gave the assurance on Thursday, December 18, 2025, during a courtesy visit by the NIPSS Director General to his office. He commended the Institute for its consistent contributions to national development through the training of strategic-level manpower and policy-focused research aimed at addressing Nigeria’s developmental and security challenges.
The CDS expressed satisfaction with NIPSS’s growing emphasis on research and development, describing it as timely and critical given the current national realities. He reaffirmed the readiness of the Armed Forces to partner with the Institute in developing practical and sustainable solutions to Nigeria’s security and governance challenges.
An alumnus of NIPSS and a member of its Board of Governors, General Oluyede reiterated the Armed Forces’ unwavering support for the Institute, pledging continued collaboration across all areas to enable NIPSS effectively deliver on its mandate.
Earlier, Professor Omotayo expressed appreciation to the CDS and the Armed Forces of Nigeria for their sacrifices in safeguarding the country’s unity and territorial integrity. He briefed the CDS on ongoing collaborative efforts between NIPSS and the Nigerian Army aimed at developing innovative solutions to national challenges, and appealed for increased support from the Armed Forces to ensure the success of the initiative.
The NIPSS Director General also outlined plans to reposition the Institute as a leading African think-tank for the incubation and development of transformational ideas, seeking the backing of the Armed Forces to actualise this vision. He further called for sustained support to improve the teaching and learning environment at the Institute.
The visit underscored the shared commitment of both institutions to strategic collaboration, capacity building, and policy-driven solutions in support of national security and development.
