VP Shettima Reaffirms Nigeria’s Commitment to Africa’s Future, Launches Flagship Social Impact Initiatives

Speaking at the Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS) High-Level Policy Engagement held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, VP Shettima noted that government alone cannot solve Africa’s development issues. Represented at the event by his Technical Adviser on Women, Youth Engagement, and Impact, Hajiya Hauwa Liman, he emphasized that platforms like ASIS must translate intent into execution, dialogue into decision, and partnerships into measurable outcomes.

“Beyond Nigeria’s commitment to shaping Africa’s future, this summit must be more than an exercise in social relations. It must serve as a platform for execution, where dialogue matures into action and partnerships are forged with outcomes firmly in view,” VP Shettima said.

The Vice President highlighted that Nigeria has strengthened initiatives such as the Business Coalition for Education (BCE) and the Women and Youth Financial and Economic Inclusion Platform (WYFEI) to support inclusive growth. He stressed that development should now be framed as investment—in human capital, productive systems, climate resilience, digital infrastructure, and inclusive markets—rather than mere expenditure.

“Africa’s future will not be financed by aid alone,” VP Shettima said, “but through patient capital, catalytic finance, blended resources, and private enterprise deployed at scale and guided by impact.” He added that Nigeria is reforming institutions, aligning incentives, and building results-oriented architectures to serve citizens rather than impress donors.

He further noted that the summit provides a space where policymakers, CEOs, development partners, entrepreneurs, civil society leaders, and innovators collaborate to co-design and co-deliver solutions. “Our focus on strengthening human capital is unmistakable, but progress demands coalition. Fragmentation is a risk we cannot afford,” VP Shettima warned.

The engagement also saw the launch of several flagship initiatives including the Business Coalition for Education (BCE), the Nigeria Foundational Learning Fund, and Women and Youth Financial and Economic Inclusion (WYFEI) Nigeria, marking an institutional commitment to turning policy into tangible action.

Representatives from the federal government, United Nations, development partners, and civil society reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the importance of collaboration to achieve measurable social impact across the country and continent.
