Court documents presented at Southwark Crown Court reveal that Alison-Madueke reportedly spent more than £2 million ($2.75 million) at Harrods using cards tied to Nigerian businessman Kolawole Aluko and Tenka Limited. Prosecutors said she enjoyed private shoppers and luxury perks abroad as part of the scheme.
The former minister allegedly stayed in fully staffed properties, including a Buckinghamshire home and London flats, with costs covered by companies seeking contracts with Nigeria’s state oil firm, NNPC. Between 2011 and 2015, Alison-Madueke reportedly received cash payments, private jets, and luxury vacations funded by energy sector interests.
In Nigeria, co-defendants linked to the case are currently on trial over the alleged diversion of $1.6 billion in petroleum revenues. The London trial marks one of the most high-profile international legal proceedings involving alleged corruption by a former Nigerian official in the oil and gas sector.
Court proceedings are ongoing.
