Former Military Governor of Plateau and Katsina states, Major General Lawrence Anebi Onoja (Rtd) has been honoured with the Omar Bradley Lifetime Achievement Award in Leadership and Scholarship at the 7th OurNigeria News Awards, held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, in Abuja.

The award recognises Gen. Onoja’s decades of service to the nation and his continued contributions to leadership development and academic scholarship after retirement from the Nigerian Army.

Speaking after receiving the honour, the former military governor expressed gratitude to OurNigeria News Magazine and dedicated the award to his family and students. He highlighted his recent focus on mentoring young Nigerians at the University of Abuja Leadership Centre, where he has spent the last three to four years teaching postgraduate students.

“For the past three to four years, I have spent all my time at the University of Abuja Leadership Centre, impacting knowledge on the younger ones and ensuring that all Masters and PhD students are taught exactly what they need to know about statesmanship in this country,” he said.

Gen. Onoja also offered prayers for national unity, stressing the importance of cohesion and leadership grounded in service. “My prayer for Nigeria today is that Nigeria shall continue to remain one,” he added.

He also congratulated the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), on his honour as “Man of the Year”, describing him as “a very outstanding officer,” and commended his service to the nation. “We appreciate you and we pray that you continue to render service to our great nation. God bless you and your family,” Onoja said.

The OurNigeria News Awards celebrate excellence across leadership, governance, security, and public service. The Omar Bradley Lifetime Achievement Award, named after the renowned American military leader and statesman, is reserved for individuals whose careers reflect enduring commitment to leadership, scholarship, and national development.

Gen. Onoja’s recognition at this year’s ceremony underscores his transition from military command to academic mentorship, and his ongoing influence in shaping the next generation of Nigerian leaders.
