Family Accuses DSS Operative of Abduction, Forced Conversion as Service Confirms Investigation

The family of Walida Abdulhadi Ibrahim has strongly denied allegations that her life was ever under threat, instead accusing a Department of State Services (DSS) operative, Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi, of abducting her, sexually exploiting her, forcibly converting her to Christianity, and impregnating her.

Walida’s father, Malam Abdulhadi Ibrahim, described the emotional toll the incident has taken on the family. “Her mother died with the pain of not knowing where her daughter was. This suffering has destroyed our family,” he said.

Her uncle, Badamasi Ibrahim, also rejected claims that the family intended to harm her. “I never said she would be killed. We are not non-believers who would kill their child,” he stated.

The family further alleged that the case mirrors the widely publicized abduction of Ese Oruru, claiming Walida was brainwashed into disowning her family and renouncing her faith.

In response, the DSS confirmed that Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi — clarifying that he is not Ifeanyi Festus as earlier reported in some petitions — has been detained and is currently under investigation. The Service said the probe covers allegations of abuse of office, forceful conversion, and marriage.

“The outcome of the investigation will be made public,” the DSS stated.

Meanwhile, the family’s legal representative, Kabir Adamu, criticized the Service over what he described as non-compliance with a court order. “What the court ordered is the arrest of the DSS personnel and the immediate release of Walida to her family. I don’t understand why she is still with them,” he said.

The matter remains under investigation as legal proceedings continue.
