NEMA Receives 708 Nigerian Returnees from Niger Republic in Kano

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kano Operations Office, has received a total of 708 Nigerian returnees from Niamey, Niger Republic.

The returnees arrived in 12 luxury buses through the Jibia Border under the escort of officials from the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

According to officials, the group comprised 292 males and 416 females. They were drawn from several states, including Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Benue, Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kogi, and Niger States.

The reception exercise was conducted in a coordinated manner with the involvement of key stakeholders such as the National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMA).

Upon arrival, the returnees underwent standard profiling procedures, while immediate humanitarian assistance was provided to ensure their safety, dignity, and well-being. Vulnerable individuals received special attention, including the distribution of dignity kits.

Authorities also provided essential relief materials such as mattresses, blankets, and mosquito nets to support the returnees’ immediate needs, as efforts continue to facilitate their reintegration into society.
