The United States has commended the Nigerian government for its renewed commitment to accelerating the prosecution of terrorism-related cases, describing the recent conviction of 386 militants as a major step toward justice and accountability.
In a statement, Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump on Arab and African Affairs, said the convictions—achieved after years of delays in the judicial process—reflect Nigeria’s determination to confront extremism through lawful means.
He praised the Nigerian authorities for prioritising timely prosecution of terrorism cases, noting that efficient and transparent legal processes are essential in strengthening public trust in the justice system.
“The United States commends the Nigerian government for its strong commitment to expediting the trials,” Boulos said, adding that adherence to the rule of law is critical for national stability and long-term security.
He further stressed that sustained judicial reforms and efficiency will enhance Nigeria’s capacity to respond to extremist threats while reinforcing institutional credibility.
The development comes amid Nigeria’s ongoing counterterrorism efforts, particularly in the North-East, where insurgent activities have persisted for over a decade, prompting intensified military and legal responses by authorities.
