A senior officer of the Nigerian Army, I.A. Mohammed, has reportedly been killed following an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Monguno.
Sources indicate that the incident occurred on the night of April 12, 2026, as the officer was leading reinforcements to troops who had come under attack in the area.
In a related development, reports suggest that four soldiers were also killed during the operation after a Nigerian Air Force fighter jet, deployed in response to an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), allegedly struck a light armoured vehicle conveying the troops.
Monguno, a key frontline location in Nigeria’s North-East, has remained a hotspot for repeated террорист attacks, with ongoing military operations under Operation HADIN KAI.
